Supreme Court Frontrunners

I thought I would share with you a few pieces addressing potential Supreme Court nominees. It is likely that Justice Souter's retirement provides only the first opportunity President Obama will have to nominate someone to serve on our nation's highest court. While there is plenty of information floating around. Here are some items that I think you'll find especially helpful as you are trying to find out what you can about the frontrunners.

This article, http://bench.nationalreview.com/post/?q=OTExYjdiYTFjYjM3ZGZhYjJmODFhODRiMWVlYTU0YzM=, by Wendy Long from National Review Online helps put the so-called conservative record of Elena Kagan in perspective.

Here, http://www.frcblog.com/2009/02/change-watch-backgrounder-elena-kagan/, is a piece written by Tom McCluskey of FRC on Kagan. No one should think that she is going to be a conservative or even moderate addition to the Court on many of the issues of concern to us.

Finally, I think you'll find this group of web ads, http://www.obamasfrontrunners.com/, useful in helping you understand the ideologies of the three most likely front-runners, Kagan, Wood, and Sotomayor. You should also click on "more" under each of the video screens to get a brief summary of concerns about these three potential Supreme Court picks. I hope you find this information helpful as you continue to help folks understand the serious issues we are dealing with today.

Blessings,

Barrett
